Portugal's soccer stadiums of Porto, Leiria and Coimbra have installed Barco’s SLite outdoor LED displays as part of their facilities. A total of five LED video screens have been put up to ensure soccer fans dont miss the action during the upcoming Euro 2004 soccer tournament in Portugal.

Estádio do Dragão, FC Porto’s new stadium, is built in the city near the old Antas Stadium. It has a seating capacity of over 50,000. On each end of the stadium, Barco has installed a SLite outdoor LED display. On match days, these displays will entertain spectators and heighten the overall experience before, during and after the game.

Both the displays are mounted on a rotating pole so that they can be turned outwards. On non-match days, they face the plaza near the stadium and the Via de Cintura Interna ring road. The screens are also used for advertising. To make sure the right information is shown on the different displays at the right time, Porto has also installed Barco’s sport control software. Replays, animations, video clips as well as advertising messaging can be shown and changed at the touch of a button.

The Dragão stadium in Porto will host the Euro 2004 opening ceremony as well as the opening game between Portugal and Greece on 12 June. The event will air live on ESPN Star Sports in India. The stadium will also be used for the quarter final and the semi final on 27 June and 1 July respectively.

Barco Media specialises in offering large screen display solutions to the sports market. Looking beyond Euro 2004, SLite LED displays have been installed in Stade de Geneve (Switzerland). This is one of the stadiums to host the Euro 2008 tournament as well as Kaiserslautern (Germany). This will be used during the 2006 world soccer championships.
