Tektronix which provides test, measurement and monitoring instrumentation has announced the selection of a number of its video test products by TV facility provider, Alfacam. The deal is for Alfacam's Euro1080 which is Europe’s first High Definition (HD) satellite channel.

Alfacam chose Tektronix as an official partner to supply video / audio monitors and synchronisation / signal generators. These will support upcoming Euro 1080 coverage of the Athens Olympics.

Euro1080 launched two HD satellite channels in January. The deal with Tektronix incorporates a number of products being used in the refurbishment of existing Outside Broadcasting (OB) vans and fitting out of newer, larger trucks in the Alfacam fleet. Some vehicles carry as many as 36 of the latest HD cameras and require complex HD and/or Standard Definition (SD) video monitoring tools.

Other facilities being outfitted include new Euro1080 studios, associated control rooms, editing suites and a play out center; all at a new Alfacam / Euro1080 media-complex in Lint, Belgium. This will open in September 2004. Equipment being integrated includes Tektronix’ WFM700 HD/SD waveform monitors, TG700 HD/SD synchronization / signal generators and ECO422D HD/SD changeover units.

The previously mentioned Tektronix WFM700 offers a comprehensive set of features to address the needs of television professionals using digital video technology in either standard or high definition formats, with the ability to add audio monitoring. From enhanced error checking with full time-stamping and logging, to sophisticated remote control, and increased functionality via a versatile display, the WFM700 provides flexible and fully automated checking that puts users in control of every important measurement parameter
