| The appeal of lower-cost voice services in homes and
businesses via a cable network using Voice over IP (VoIP) technology
from Scientific-Atlanta (SA) offers cable operators an opportunity
to add voice to their already popular video and data services for
consumers. Using the Scientific-Atlanta WebSTAR DPX2203 cable modem
with embedded media terminal adapter (EMTA), cable operators can offer
advanced telephony and high-speed data service from one device.
The new DPX2203 will be highlighted in demonstrations at the Consumer
Electronics Show from 8 - 11 January, 2004 in Las Vegas.
The DPX2203 is PacketCable 1.0 certified to help ensure compatibility
and interoperability with other PacketCable-certified and qualified
devices including Call Management Servers, Media Gateways and Cable
Modem Termination Systems (CMTS). "As the demand from consumers
for a complete bundle of services grows, the DPX2203 can help cable
operators offer VoIP service which some market analysts forecast
will grow to over 10 million North American subscribers by 2007,"
said Scientific-Atlanta vice president and general manager cable
modem business unit Himanshu Parikh.
The highlights of the cable modem with EMTA's features and capabilities
are as follows:
Versatility - Cable modem and EMTA in one device
Voice Service - Supports two lines of voice service (RJ-11)
Data Service - Supports high speed symmetrical data services
Compatibility/Interoperability - PacketCable 1.0 certified for DOCSIS
