Ikanos Communications, developer of Smart Silicon For Profitable
Broadband and the first company to extend broadband services at
up to 100 Mbps over a single telephone line, announced the launch
of its Fiber Extension technology to the Indian market and the opening
of the Ikanos development center in Bangalore.
Since volume production began just a year and a half ago, Ikanos
has shipped more than two million ports. The companys programmable
chipsets now support equipment in the most advanced carrier networks
in the world. Ikanos Communications will introduce the FxTM 100
Mbps Fiber Extension technology this week to the Indian market.
Based in Indias renowned technology corridor, the Ikanos
Development Center will focus on hardware and software design and
development, and application creation for Ikanos ultra high-speed
programmable chipsets. The site will also house a state-of-the -art
test and quality assurance facility.
Ikanos ground-breaking advances in chip technology enable
carriers to quickly and cost-effectively offer voice, TV and data
over existing telephone lines for one always-on broadband connection.
Carriers can now deploy fiber to the neighborhood, curb, or building
and take advantage of new or existing telephone lines to deliver
voice, super-fast Internet and high quality TV directly to the subscriber
premise. Carriers greatly accelerate mass provisioning of fiber-speed
services, while cutting capital expenditures per subscriber from
100 to as much as 1000 times less than the fiber-based alternatives.
"Ikanos is enabling carriers worldwide to deliver 100 Mbps
to the consumer quickly and cost effectively," said Ikanos
Communications VP marketing Richard Sekar. "We are the first
company to deliver 100 Mbps chipsets over telephone lines in volume,
making the Ikanos solution a powerful complement to fiber
networks. By extending fiber services over existing telephone lines,
bandwidth ubiquity is achievable in weeks and months instead of
years."
"The site for the Ikanos Development Center was selected for
its renowned engineering talent," said Ikanos Communications
director of engineering Vallabh Kulkarni. "Were expanding
the top-class team at the Ikanos Development Center and building
a leading organization that can take pride in making innovations
a reality in India and the global marketplace."
