Discreet looking at expanding business

Discreet, which comes out with solutions that are designed for digital media creation, management and delivery, across all disciplines from film and television to visual effects, colour grading and editing has announced that its busines is growing.

The main growth is happening in Los Angeles due to the fact that an increasing number of projects are being shot there. Entertainment Industry Development Corp which tracks production activity in the LA area, indicated that the number of television production days in LA have grown by 23 per cent since 1997. Much of the production work in LA is now for episodics, television commercials and music videos as well as feature films.

One of its clients is Sony Pictures Imageworks. Sony Pictures Digital’s post-production facility recently purchased Discreet’s lustre system for feature film colour grading. NBC’s The Magic Room which is the post-production facility that supports NBC movies, specials and commercial spots, has added a second Discreet fire system. This will complement its existing Discreet inferno system and four Discreet flame visual effects systems.

CBS Digital which is the post-production facility for the Viacom broadcaster has purchased a Discreet fire license for cutting and conforming high-definition on-air promos.

CBS Digital is currently using Discreet’s fire system to conform the independent film Blast, and is developing CBS’ main image piece for the network’s upfront presentation. This is a two-minute piece that showcases the broadcasters programming to potential advertisers.

Discreet added that its HD sales around the world mirror the growth in HD business in Los Angeles. The release states that advertisers, post-production facilities and institutions worldwide are adopting Discreet HD editing and HD effects solutions in growing numbers. Its smoke HD systems buyers include Europe's Ace AS, Video Efecto, The Matchbox, Sylicone and Australia-based ZSpace.
