| Games network GSN has chosen Scientific-Atlanta's
PowerVu digital system for shifting their program distribution from
analog to digital.
The distribution of GSN programming across North America went exclusively
to PowerVu in late March, confirms a press release.
"Improving GSN's ability to manage the operating costs while
boosting the reliability and quality of our program delivery were
two important benefits delivered by the Scientific-Atlanta digital
solution," said GSN network operations vice president Ryan
Tredinnick.
"The PowerVu equipment enables GSN to use our satellite bandwidth
more efficiently to distribute our programming and the system's
reputation for dependable performance, made this the best path for
us to take in this important business venture," He further
added.
GSN has deployed the the third generation PowerVu D9850(tm) program
receiver. The latest version of the receiver offers expanded capabilities
for accessing more powerful IP application capabilities, informs
the press release.
"GSN's decision to move from analog to digital programming
distribution is significant from both business and operational perspectives,"
said Scientific-Atlanta transmission network systems vice president
market development Paul Kosac.
He added, "Their new digital feed enables them to reduce their
transponder space requirements, while increasing the cost-efficiency
of their operations".
GSN features 84 hours per week of interactive programming allowing
its viewers to win prizes by playing along with GSN's televised
games via gsn.com. The network is jointly owned by Sony Pictures
Entertainment and Liberty Media Corporation.
