News Corp's NDS has announced a new win for its broadband Synamedia
system. Cyprus Telecommunications Authority (CYTA) has named NDS
as a key technology supplier for content protection technology.
An official release informs that CYTA's aim is to become the first
digital TV operator in Cyprus to supply a secure broadcast and video
on demand service through existing copper lines using DSL technology.
The win is the first example of the cooperation between NDS and
Alcatel. NDS and Alcatel, the world leader in broadband networking
also announced an agreement to promote and integrate NDS's secure
broadband architecture, Synamedia with Alcatel's Open Media Suite
solution for broadband entertainment and communication.
CYTA has expressed confidence that this service will offer a completely
new experience to the viewer due to interactivity and has a lot
of potential for building a number of innovative and appealing services.
The company selected NDS because of their unprecedented record
of protecting content revenues for digital content delivery platforms
and due to the interoperability with the already selected Alcatel
Open Media Suite solution. CYTA views content security as a critical
factor for a high value content provider and a crucial aspect to
be able to secure high value content from Studios.
The release adds that CYTA is one of the first of a growing number
of telecommunication companies that wants to provide a secure broadband
IP entertainment service.
NDS believes that this first cooperation between it and Alcatel
is a great example of market leading companies from the digital
TV market and the telecommunications market working together to
deliver a total broadband IP entertainment solution; and that this
will accelerate broadband IP deployment.
