Scientific-Atlanta (SA) has announced an aggressive business initiative
to increase its focus on delivering commercial services solutions
to provide cable operators with new service opportunities. This
will maximize the revenue potential of the cable ops' transport
networks.
Paul Connolly has assumed a new role as vice president and general
manager of emerging businesses at the company. He is responsible
for the new commercial services organisation.
Providing data, voice and video services to businesses delivers
the best new opportunity for profitable growth for cable operators
today. According to SA, it's research shows that 80 per cent of
the business datacom market can be adequately served by traditional
dial-up, ISDN, DSL or cable modem service. However, that market
represents only about 20 per cent of the dollars spent on business
data connectivity.
The real growth potential is with the high-speed data (HSD) market
that generates 80 per cent of the revenue opportunity. These high-speed
data services include Virtual Private Network (VPN), Ethernet Private
LAN (EPL) and Transparent LAN Service (TLS).
An official release informs that SA has the products, systems and
know-hows - and now the organisation to give cable operators a chance
to offer a wide range of voice and data connectivity services on
their cable networks.
SA supplies digital content distribution systems, transmission
networks for broadband access to the home, digital interactive set-tops
and subscriber systems designed for video, high-speed Internet and
voice-over IP networks, and worldwide customer service and support,
the release says.
