Leitch Technology Corporation has announced that Canadian network
CTV has standardised on Leitch's 6800+ modular interface products
for an upgrade of the control room that supports Canada's number-one
national newscast, CTV News. Leitch's Panacea modular routing switchers
-- compact routers that offer on-air quality in every format from
analogue to High Definition (HD) are also part of the control room
upgrade.
CTV has stated that it chose the 6800+ for this project, in part,
because its high-density chassis consolidates a broad range of functionality
within a single frame. This allows the broadcaster to save on both
facility space and system cost. The 6800+ also offers exceptional
control and flexibility -- including Ethernet capability which allows
it to be prepared for any future requirements.
The 6800+ modular interface platform supports a comprehensive range
of functions including conversion, processing, distribution, monitoring,
reference and timing, thereby streamlining facility operations for
a more integrated content environment. Building on the strong legacy
of the 6800 line, 6800+ features increased module capacity up to
20 cards in a 2RU frame; support of new standards including digital/analog
audio and video, HD and fiber optics; and backward and forward-compatibility
with existing 6800 infrastructure. Providing free serial control,
Ethernet control of up to nine frames via one optional interface,
and full compatibility with Leitch's Command Control System, 6800+
offers the most comprehensive control flexibility in a cost-effective
solution an official release states.
Leitch Technology designs and distributes high-performance video
systems for the professional television industry. Leitch offers
the most extensible products and interoperable systems. In this
manner it enables operations of any size to achieve a truly integrated
content environment.
