Texas Instruments' projectors and televisions featuring its Digital
Light Processing (DLP) technology were chosen for use at the 75th
Annual Academy Awards held earlier today.
This marks the fourth consecutive year that DLP technology lit up
screens at the world's most famous awards ceremony. In India, the
show aired live on Star Movies. The channel will have a repeat telecast
of the Oscars at 9 pm.
An official release informs that 12 DLP technology-based DP28sx
projectors from Digital Projection were featured at the Oscar ceremonies.
They delivered an image measuring 70' x 20' on the main screen and
to project the proceedings onto side screens, allowing the audience
front row viewing. In addition, five Samsung HLM507W 50" televisions,
also featuring DLP technology prominently displayed live high-definition
images of the ceremony throughout the Kodak Theatre, including to
presenters and award winners in the green room and attendees in
the lobby areas.
DLP technology delivers clear, sharp, bright and accurate images
in a broad range of projection and display applications including
business projectors, home entertainment projectors, large screen
tabletop TVs, video walls and projection systems used in commercial
entertainment, says the release. It is also the most reliable projection/display
technology: its digital nature and excellent thermal characteristics
means that its image does not degrade over time, and it does not
suffer from the 'burn in' that afflicts other technologies and impairs
image quality.
The release states that at the heart of the DLP technology is the
Digital Micromirror Device (DMD) optical semiconductor chip. The
DMD switch has an array of up to 1,310,000 hinged, microscopic mirrors
which operate as optical switches to create a high resolution, full
colour image.
A development of DLP technology -- DLP Cinema technology -- delivers
large screen images that are superior in many respects to film,
and is helping revolutionise the movie industry .
