NDTV, Iredeto join hand to provide traffic updates

Forthcoming news channels from the New Delhi Television Limited (NDTV) stable, have a surprise up their sleeves. Both NDTV 24x7 and NDTV India - English and Hindi news channels respectively, will be airing local weather reports and traffic updates courtesy the United States.

The 'breakthrough technology' implemented with the help of US-based Iredeto software will enable NDTV channel viewers in Mumbai get regular updates of the local traffic conditions and likely weather conditions, says an official release. In addition to weather, traffic reports, channel can also air local news as per requirement.

The release quotes NDTV founder Dr Prannoy Roy as saying: "Although quite common in the US, this technology will be a novel feature in the Indian market. An Indian viewer is very discerning and looks for experience, credibility and quality. With this technology, the quality of Indian broadcasting will scale up to international standards."

With slew of news channels either already on air or set to launch in the near future, NDTV has a tough competition to face. Not one to be left behind, the broadcasting house officials say that it has invested in quality broadcasting equipment for visual effects; editing, finishing and broadcasting facility. In fact, the release claims that NDTV is the first Indian broadcaster to invest in high -end systems.
