Barco has announced that it has been selected as the preferred
supplier for the Estadio das Antas (Portugal) and the Stade de Genève
(Switzerland). The company's LED displays will be integrated into
these stadiums, which will host the European soccer championships
in 2004 and 2008 respectively.
An official release informs that the S-Lite range, specifically
designed for use in sports arenas, offers sponsors and advertisers
a larger than life communication channel and enhances the experience
of the fans by showing real-time video, data and animations.
The Estadio das Antas Stadium in Porto, Portugal, will be equipped
with 96 square metres of Barco's brand new S-Lite 10 LED display.
The stadium, with a seating capacity of 50,000 people, has been
chosen to host the opening game of the European Soccer Championships
in June 2004.
The Barco displays, which will be installed at the stadium during
the summer of 2003, take on a unique configuration never seen before
in Europe. They will be divided into two screens of 48 square metres
each, positioned on either side of the field. The screens will be
installed on columns that can be rotated to face either the field
or the highway that bypasses the stadium the release states.
Barco's LED displays have further been chosen for the brand new
Stade de Genève. Due for completion this month, this stadium will
feature 38.4 square metres of Barco's total sports solution to show
real-time video and data, sport-specific animations as well as sponsorship
messages. With its seating capacity of 30,000 people, Stade de Genève
will be one of the biggest stadiums in Switzerland and will be part
of a larger sports, leisure and entertainment complex, including
a hotel, restaurants, sports retail units, as well as a bowling
alley and a large shopping mall.
Barco is active in three key areas of imaging technology. The company
designs and develops solutions for large screen visualisation, display
solutions for life-critical applications, and systems for visual
inspection. Barco has a network of subsidiaries, distributors and
agents in almost 100 countries.
