Streambox a technology company for video compression and video
system software for broadcasting, film, Internet and wireless networks
has announced an alliance with news broadcaster CNN. CNN has chosen
the advanced video compression technology, Streambox's Advanced
Compression Technology Level-3 (ACT-L3) Codec, for field deployment
to its correspondents stationed all over the world.
Streambox's ACT-L3 Codec is the next generation low bitrate video
compressor that allows reporters to send higher quality videos in
real-time at 64 Kbps and 128 Kbps and transmit the live videos through
satellite phones to CNN Center in Atlanta.
An official release informs that under the supply and development
agreement Streambox will provide CNN with a site license for ACT-L3
Codec for Apple QuickTime and software to improve the quality of
service for live video delivery over satellite and wireless networks.
The additional technology includes error correction, packet shaping
to control overflow and software to dynamically manage available
bandwidth.
Streambox ACT-L3 Codec also is used in numerous real-time low bitrate
applications where interlaced broadcast quality (Full D1, 60 fields,
30 fps @ 1.5 Mbps) and DVD quality (Full D1, 60 fields, 30 fps @
3 Mbps) video is required and where low end-to-end video latency
is mandatory. ACT-L3 applications include TV broadcasting, satellite,
Tele-medicine, wireless, video conferencing, film and video production
and as well as desktop PC and Macintosh systems.
