Scopus Network Technologies which claims to be a technology leader in digital TV delivery has reported that it has been selected to upgrade digital broadcasting platforms for Sky Italia. Sky Italia is owned by Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation and Telecom Italia.

An official release informs that Scopus is equipping Sky Italia with digital broadcast head-end systems and project integration, based on its CODICO product line. These systems enhance Sky Italia’s abilities to offer more diverse programming while concurrently increasing the usabililty and control over their network. The upgraded head-ends are to be located in Rome and Milan; and will be able to transmit multiple channels of high quality digital content, direct-to-home, throughout Italy.

The platforms comprise E-1000 broadcast encoders, RTM-3800 DVB multiplexers, statistical re-multiplexers for content distribution, IRD-2600 professional receivers for monitoring and a state-of-the-art, user friendly Network Management System based on Scopus’ CODICO NMS-4000. Sky Italia’s upgraded platforms are scheduled to go on-air this summer.

Sky Italia has stated that it chose Scopus based on the company's performance, service and technical capabilities. In addition, Scopus has demonstrated its willingness to take Sky Italia's input on product development to advance the state of digital transmission technology for operations at Sky Italia.

Sky Italia offers direct-to-home satellite services throughout Italy. Its new platform will launch later this year with an exclusive offering of more than 100 television, audio, interactive and pay-per-view channels ranging from sports to cinema, news, entertainment, documentaries, children, music and more. It was created in April 2003 following the merger between Telepiù and Stream.
