Califronia based Kasenna which claims to be a leading provider
of on-demand video delivery solutions, has been awarded another
technology patent. US Patent 6,498,897 was issued to the company
for its invention of the Header Injection technique used in the
delivery of real- time video streams. Kasenna, a technology powerhouse
begun at Silicon Graphics in the 1990s, adds this to their patent
portfolio.
The Header Injection technique developed by Kasenna enables operators
of on-demand television networks to seamlessly deliver media in
multiple formats or bit-rates, such as movies in MPEG-1 at 3 Mbps
and advertisements in MPEG-2 at 4 Mbps. In addition, the technique
enables smooth playback of live or multicast streams over networks
traditionally subject to packet losses. Techniques embodied in the
platform also allow users to join and view multicast streams without
the long delays usually associated with header synchronisations.
In addition to this award, the company is currently in the late
stages of being awarded another eight patents on technologies key
to the delivery of digital media, affirming Kasenna's position as
the technology leader in on-demand video delivery systems.
