Fergason Patent Properties (FPP) has announced the completion of a licensing agreement under which it has licensed certain rights related to US patent 5,717,422 to LG.Philips LCD.

An official release informs that the invention deals with system synchronised brightness control (SSBC) technology. This improves the video image quality of LCD displays through the synchronous modulation of backlight brightness and other system parameters.

According to Display Search president Ross Young, LG.Philips LCD has been the number one supplier of large-area TFT LCDs (10"+) for the past four quarters (Q4 2002 - Q3 2003). The company is expected to be number one for this year.

Formed a couple of years ago, FPP's aim is to expand the market for electronic displays by facilitating the transfer of intellectual property related to inventions and innovations that improve display performance, lower costs, or enable new markets.
