With the recent released blockbuster Kal Ho Na Ho doing
a great business, Visual Computing Labs (VCL) seems to be rubbing
its palms in glee. Reason, VCL has executed the visual effects of
the appealing Bollywood venture.
The Tata Elxsi Limited's branch used VFX focus on look-n-feel,
aesthetic appearance of the film.
VCL offers content creation, animation and special effects services
to both Hollywood as well as Bollywood, says a company release.
According to the VCL head K Chandrashekhar, "The challenge
with Kal Ho Na Ho was in creating special effects that go
beyond the conventional treatment used in tricks, stunts and action
sequences. The emphasis of the VFX was towards working on the look-n-feel,
design and thus enhance the viewers experience on the film's aesthetic
appearance. We achieved this using our rich expertise and our in-house
optimization techniques. The effects are not felt visibly as these
were used to enable storytelling in an effective manner, and this
was the biggest compliment for us."
VCL has delivered about 40 minutes of special effects on Karan
Johar's Kal Ho Na Ho - a mega blockbuster venture that revolves

and chroma-key corrections, which has been used on the introduction
of each character in the movie, to replace backgrounds, says the
release. Other methods used in the film include time warp techniques,
transitional sequences, costume replacement and time devices used
during narratives, where two activities are incorporated in the
same shot simultaneously.
Besides Kal Ho Na Ho, VCL has successfully delivered VFX
and animation effects for various Indian and Hollywood films from
its Bangalore and Mumbai labs and undertakes TV series, ad films,
