Traffic mangement company Allot Communications has announced that
Northland Cable Television has selected its NetEnforcer traffic
management offering as standard equipment in their data rollouts
throughout the US.
An official release informs that Northland Cable Television is
one of the 20 largest Cable Multiple System Operators (MSOs) in
the US. The company provides broadband services to customers in
Alabama, California, Georgia, Idaho, the Carolinas, Mississippi,
Texas and Washington from more than 80 head-end sites throughout
the country. Excessive P2P traffic crossing Northland's networks
-- especially in markets serving multiple universities -- affected
performance and threatened Northland's ability to meet the bandwidth
needs of other customers.
By implementing Allot's NetEnforcer traffic management platform,
Northland is able to manage P2P traffic across its networks -- effectively
limiting aggregate peak bandwidth usage in particular areas, while
guaranteeing minimum amounts of bandwidth elsewhere. As a result,
Northland is able to increase quality-of-service across its network
without increasing its WAN capacity, cable plant reverse path bandwidth,
or Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) capacity. In this manner
it is able to save tens of thousands of dollars in capital equipment
and bandwidth expenditures.
Northland has stated that NetEnforcer provides a clear and intuitive
picture of how its network resources are being consumed. It helps
the company correct abusive traffic patterns that impact large segments
of the customer base. NetEnforcer has become an integral part of
Northland's data services rollout because it gives tremendous network
efficiency, improves the end-user experience and performance. All
this saves the company money in the process.
Allot's NetEnforcer is a policy-based traffic management solution.
It enables service providers, universities and enterprises to monitor,
classify and optimise network traffic. Leveraging an advanced architecture
that identifies and manages network traffic with full Layer-7 control,
NetEnforcer models are available to meet the needs of networks large
and small, with throughput capabilities ranging from 2Mbps to Gigabit
performance. Allot's carrier-grade NetEnforcer AC-1000 series can
scale from 310 Mbps, to 622 Mbps, to full 1 Gbps bi-directional
throughput, and can centrally manage network traffic for up to 100,000
end-users states the release.
