N2 Broadband, which claims to be the leading provider of scalable,
open-standard solutions for on-demand services demonstrated the
power, flexibility and choice of open platforms for cable operators
of all sizes.
The convergence company conducted an exhibit on 13 August at the
2003 CableLabs Summer and Smaller Market Conferences in Keystone
Colorado. This first-of-its-kind single rack exhibit showcased the
N2 Broadband OpenStream back office platform integrated with VOD
streaming servers from Concurrent and Kasenna. These are simultaneously
streaming content to both Motorola and Scientific-Atlanta cable
networks.
Small, medium, and large operators saw first-hand how a completely
open 'plug and play' solution can diminish integration time while
supporting the rapid roll out of existing and new on-demand services.
With commercial deployments in more than 40 major markets, N2 Broadband's
OpenStream platform claims to be the cable industry's most widely
used back-office commercial VOD solution.
N2 Broadband stated that its CableLabs demonstration has a powerful
translation in cable systems across the US where operators need
a robust and flexible platform. Its OpenStream solution is enabling
operators to deploy multiple streaming servers and reap the benefits
of open competition while leaving the door open for future innovations.
N2 Broadband's OpenStream platform, both at the CableLabs conference
and in working headends, demonstrated the power of open, flexible
solutions and their ability to allow large and small operators to
deliver on-demand services much faster and more cost-effectively
than ever before.
OpenStream is billed as a highly scalable system that supports
cable operators of all sizes -- from small, growing cable systems
to large systems with substantial transaction volumes. OpenStream
is deployed with a real-time, two-way billing interface and comes
with a feature-rich, customisable reporting tool so operators can
more effectively manage, view and control their Video On Demand
network.
