BBC Technology which provides rich-media technology solutions has
announced the launch of new Colledia products. Colledia is its flagship
media lifecycle management product portfolio, which enables broadcasters,
film companies and other media-driven organisations of all sizes
to produce high-quality content more efficiently at every stage
of the media creation, management and distribution lifecycle.
Built on the Colledia Workflow platform, BBC Technology will be
bringing to market the following products: Colledia for Sports,
Colledia for News and Colledia for Production. An official release
informs that in addition Colledia Control, previously known as Broadcast
Network Control System (BNCS), is also available. Example applications
of the product portfolio are being demonstrated at NAB 2003 taking
place in Las Vegas.
Colledia for Sports: This product addresses the current changes
in traditional sports production workflows. The product integrates
the entire sports production process, supporting real-time and non-real-time
distributed and collaborative production workflows; enabling a library
of archive stock shots stored near-line for direct access; providing
a single common interface for accessing all systems; and comprising
components that are built to withstand the rigors of broadcast quality
production and playout.
Colledia for News : The release states that BBC Technology's Colledia
for News product addresses the tape-based problems common to many
broadcasters, which result from the sheer growth in news output.
These challenges include: locating appropriate footage in a timely
manner; minimizing storage, transport, duplication and redundancy
costs; managing the proliferation of incoming media and media formats
while reducing "time to air"; dealing with fragmentation of workflows
and the increased number of production "silos."
Colledia for Production: With this product BBC Technology is the
first to market a solution that digitises and seamlessly integrates
the entire production process. Developed initially to support the
BBC's extensive and complex production activities, it addresses
the problems inherent in tape-based production. Colledia for Production
manages and automates complex productions such as documentary and
magazine programming. It supports ingest, play-out and transcode
at production quality with collaborative support. It is based on
open standards and therefore integrates easily with existing systems;
and scales from small departments to enterprise-wide deployments.
Colledia Control: It provides flexible and reliable control across
all areas of broadcast infrastructure and operations, across modern
and legacy equipment, from one user-friendly, touch screen interface.
The product improves productivity and cost efficiency by enabling
a single operator to manage an entire broadcasting infrastructure
and operation, from content creation to distribution. Colledia Control
can interface with over 5,000 different pieces of broadcast equipment
the release states.
