CommScope introduces Extremeflex wireless cables for flexible applications

(Posted on 16 March 2002 2:50 pm)

CommScope has announced the development and introduction of a new cable technology that it believes produces the highest performance available for comparable size cables in wireless telecommunication applications. The company claims to be a world leader in the design and manufacture of high-performance, broadband communication cables

An official release informs that the product line provides the formability and flexibility necessary for small spaces without sacrificing electrical, mechanical or environmental specification requirements. Extremeflex cables are adapted from CommScope's patented, highly successful digital BroadBand QR product line now in use worldwide with more than a half-million miles installed.

Also available in watertight factory jumpers in a variety of popular lengths, each Extremeflex and Cell Reach factory-made jumper comes with CommScope's written one-year waterproof warranty the release states.

Speaking on this Executive VP for Business Development Larry Nelson said, "CommScope is excited to add another family of distinguished products to our successful Cell Reach wireless product line.

Our goal is to provide the wireless industry with products that have the lowest life cycle cost. To accomplish this, we have designed our smooth-wall wireless cables, connectors and hardware to offer the easiest installation and have the fewest maintenance problems. In addition field tests have shown that our cables have better environmental resistance than corrugated products.

The new Extremeflex cable family, which we are calling The Installer's Best Friend, will share these attributes while providing flexibility in applications where space is so tight that other solutions are not well adapted."

The Extremeflex aluminum 50-ohm cables are available in SFX 500 super flexible and FXL 540 flexible cables. These cables can be purchased in standard bulk lengths or in factory-made jumpers, with either field-type connectors or soldered-on connectors. Extremeflex is designed to use the same connectors, tools, and accessories as the Cell Reach brand.

The new Extremeflex product line also includes CommScope's Wireless Broadband Communication (WBCTM) cables. WBC is a low-loss, low-cost 50-ohm braided cable designed for less demanding wireless applications such as LMDS, MMDS, Paging, Wireless Local Loop (WLL), mobile radio, in-building or fixed wireless. WBC cable is available in sizes from 0.1 inch up to 0.6 inches.

CommScope claims to be the world's largest manufacturer of broadband coaxial cable for Hybrid Fiber Coaxial (HFC) applications and a leading supplier of high- performance fiber optic and twisted pair cables for LAN, wireless and other communications applications.
