Scientific-Atlanta introduces new Euro-Docsis 1.0 Certified cable modem

(Posted on 23 March 2002 4:10 pm)

Scientific-Atlanta has announced the introduction of the WebSTARDPX120 dual-standard cable modem. This will enable European cable operators to meet consumer demand for faster access to the Internet.

An official release informs that the latest addition to the WebSTAR family is a European Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (Euro-DOCSIS) 1.0 certified cable modem that will also operate as a DOCSIS modem. The new modem incorporates a faster microprocessor than previous models, and offers high performance, reliability and value to cable operators throughout the European region.

VP and MD EMEA for Scientific-Atlanta Paul Coxon said, "We want cable operators all across Europe to benefit from our extensive experience in creating and deploying interactive networks and services. We will deliver the products and services to European cable operators that empower them to satisfy their subscribers' demands for lightning-fast access to the Internet and its resources without delays."

The WebSTAR DPX120 cable modem is designed for simultaneous Ethernet and USB connection. Consumers can self-install the cable modem and then simply connect it to cable TV or Ethernet lines to suit their individual needs. The new modem also provides enhanced online privacy by means of an integrated software-controlled security feature in the form of a soft standby switch that blocks access from the modem to the PC without disconnecting from the network.

Additional features of the WebSTAR DPX120 include:

1. Small footprint, hardened design for superior reliability
2. WebWizard, browser-based online status indicator
3. Enhanced bi-directional performance for exceptional data throughput
4. Operates as DOCSIS or EURO-DOCSIS modem in 8MHz European frequency plan. It supports up to 32 users (1USB and up to 31 Ethernet) for small (home) businesses Ethernet and USB-bridged data ports
Mounts vertically or horizontally
