KPNQwest, which claims to be the leading pan-European data
communications and hosting company, has announced the signing
of an agreement with RTL NEWMEDIA.
As
per the agreement KPNQwest will provide a scalable content
delivery and backbone infrastructure to support the increase
of streaming services across the portal http://www.RTL.de
. RTL Newmedia is the Internet subsidiary of RTL Television,
a general interest web site in Germany. An official release
informs that since October 2001, RTL carried some 11 terabytes
of streamed content to provide services for over 440,000
viewers.
In
the fourth quarter of 2001, RTL claims to have registered
1.6 billion hits (the equivalent of 6 terabytes). The company
registered around 800 million hits for the first six weeks
of 2002. KPNQwest will provide a robust and scalable solution
to support the streaming of live events including; news
from key announcers and video chats with celebrities from
the music, television and film industries. The solution
has also been used to stream public events like the Dutch
Royal Wedding and the Pet Shop Boys concert.
Since
the streamed solution allows users to access and download
media programmes on-demand, it provides the flexibility
to view live events from anywhere in the world.
