Scientific-Atlanta adds new member to its ethernet family

(Posted on 4 June 2002 7:00 pm)

Scientific-Atlanta has unveiled the new gigabit Ethernet transport system, Prisma GbE.

The 10- Gigabit solution easily interfaces with SONET/SDH networks, which enables telecom operators to transport VOD and other on-demand services over their existing equipment without any hardware extensions, says a press release. When coupled with Scientific-Atlanta's Imux IP-to-ASI gateway device, which offers jitter control for switched IP applications, the Prisma GbE system delivers high-quality video to the VOD gateway by breaking down large numbers of IP data streams into individual movie streams requested by the consumer, the press release states.

Scientific-Atlanta vice president marketing and network architectures, Paul Connolly says that the Prisma GbE system represents the solution cable operators needed to ensure faster return on investment and quicker consumer adoption of on-demand services.
