California
headquartered Liberate Technologies, the provider of open
software platforms for enhanced television, and Eurosport,
the leading European sports channel, are working together
to deliver enhanced programming on the Liberate TV Platform
software.
Both companies are demonstrating the enhanced TV features
applicable to Eurosport's motorsports event to cable operators
-- the LG Super Racing Weekend. Features include the ability
to watch in-depth interview video clips on the same screen
as the live race, find out more data about the teams, vote
on the live action, or listen to different language feeds.
Both parties are also looking at developing similar applications
on other Eurosport programming using Mindhouse, a Liberate
PopTV Premier Developer Partner. Eurosport claims to be
the most widely available channel in Europe, with a reach
of over 95 million homes and 250 million viewers in 54 countries.
The channel is available via Astra, one of the main European
satellites on the basic programming tier of cable networks,
and on nearly all existing digital platforms in the UK,
Nordic Countries, France, Spain, Italy, Poland, Portugal
and Greece. Eurosport simultaneously broadcasts programmes
in 18 European languages.
Liberate's software, based on Internet and broadcasting
standards, is an infrastructure platform supporting digital
consumer services delivered by cable, satellite and telecommunications
companies. Liberate's PopTV programme with more than 3,000
registered members in 50 countries claims to be the largest
partner programme in the interactive television industry.
