Scientific-Atlanta
and Digeo have announced plans to develop, manufacture and
market a new Explorer home media centre to run Digeo's Moxi
service. The advanced set-top, slated to ship under the
product name Explorer MC home media centre with Moxi, will
enable cable operators to offer consumers a wide range of
digital entertainment services, including personal video
recording (PVR), digital music, games and photos, all through
one easy-to-use platform.
According to a company release, Charter Communications plans
to deploy the new Explorer MC set-top next year. Boasting
an onboard digital cable receiver, a 80-gigabyte hard drive,
and Scientific-Atlanta's PowerKEY conditional access technology,
this innovative device will make it easy for consumers to
navigate through and enjoy the range of entertainment options.
Through the Moxi Menu, an intuitive all-media browser, consumers
will be able to quickly organise, surf and access live or
digitally recorded television programming, MP3s, and DVDs
using their remote control. Through the Moxi Ticker - another
unique feature, subscribers will have easy access to up-to-the-minute
sports scores, stock quotes, news and weather, the release
states.
The Explorer MC set-top will have the ability to function
as a home entertainment server, simultaneously sharing PVR
content, digital files and services with other TVs and devices
throughout the home, making it a cost effective way to deliver
compelling applications and interactive programming to multiple
televisions within the household.
