N2 Broadband and DIVA offer seamless VOD solution to cable ops and content providers

(Posted on 16 January 2002 5:45 pm)

Atlanta based N2 Broadband, which claims to be the leading provider of digital asset distribution solutions for Video on Demand (VOD) and DIVA have announced the successful integration of N2 Broadband's MediaPath content distribution products with DIVA's VOD server platform and content management solution.

Headquarters in California DIVA claims to be the leading VOD solutions provider for the cable TV industry. This integrated solution provides an end-to- end method for delivering VOD services to cable TV systems by managing, storing, and streaming movies and other digital video content.

The integrated solution uses N2 Broadband's MediaPath delivery system to transmit digital video content to DIVA's servers. DIVA's content management system provides VOD server space management, multiple content provider service management, and national/regional programming support.

President and CEO DIVA Henk Hanselaar said: "We need a scalable way to deliver a variety of content from multiple sources as our VOD solution continues to deploy at an accelerated pace with MSOs. The integration of N2 Broadband's MediaPath delivery system allows the content to reach the headend significantly faster, less expensively, and with greater operational efficiency."

DIVA's VOD server and MediaPath both comply with the Asset Delivery Interface (ADI) specification. Because these products have been developed to the ADI specification, they enable the automated distribution of VOD content to cable systems. Leading cable industry organisations continue to embrace open development standards such as ADI so that VOD services can be deployed more easily.

N2 Broadband president and CEO Reggie Bradford said: "This solution gives greater control to content owners and cable operators. The future of on-demand services like VOD is contingent on the industry's ability to deploy scalable content distribution solutions."

N2 Broadband's MediaPath solution, which utilises satellite transmission, replaces the previous method of using DLT tapes manually delivered to cable head-ends and copied onto VOD servers. These processes were time-consuming required significant processing by personnel in all phases of delivery, presented substantial potential for bottlenecks and limited the amount of content delivered.

MediaPath eliminates these outdated methods and replaces them with an economic, reliable and secure platform for media asset delivery. In addition to eliminating bottlenecks, MediaPath allows the content provider to maintain tight control over its assets while offering more variety and functionality to the consumer.

DIVA's content management system enables cable operators to manage their national VOD networks by providing end-to-end control and real-time status of all content loaded on servers and the ability to create promotions and services customized to national, regional, and local markets.
