Scientific-Atlanta
has commenced licensing its cable TV tap technology. It
has granted a license to PCT International, a cable technology
manufacturer and subsidiary of Andes Industries. As per
the agreement, PCT will manufacture its own line of taps
using Scientific-Atlanta's patented power-passing technology
and trademarked design.
According
to an official release, Scientific-Atlanta has issued around
400 US patents. Its patented make-before-break tap technology,
licensed by PCT, features a power bypass switch that enables
network operators to easily upgrade faceplates. This can
be done without unsplicing the backhousing and without disrupting
the downstream cable subscriber's television viewing experience.
PCT has also licensed the trademarked shape of the tap,
which will promote compatibility between the back housings
and faceplates that are manufactured by the two companies.
Scientific-Atlanta is a leading supplier of transmission
networks for broadband access to the home, digital interactive
subscriber systems designed for video, high speed Internet,
and voice over IP (VoIP) networks, and worldwide customer
service and support.
