Broadcom Corporation, a leading provider of integrated circuits
enabling broadband communication, has announced that 11 of its customers'
products received DOCSIS certification in the 24th wave of certification
testing recently conducted by CableLabs.
Curently, three customers receiving DOCSIS 2.0 certification use
the Broadcom TurboQAM BCM3348 in their cable modem products, claims
the company.
Eight BCM3348-based cable modem products were also awarded DOCSIS
1.0 and 1.1 certification. The number of cable modem products certified
by CableLabs based on the TurboQAM BCM3348 now totals 10.
The TurboQAM BCM3348 is a single-chip cable modem that supports
the two advanced communication technologies required by the DOCSIS
2.0 specification -- advanced time division multiple access (A-TDMA)
and synchronous code division multiple access (S-CDMA). The DOCSIS
2.0 specification enables the tripling of upstream data capacity,
from the consumer to the cable operator, creating a cable network
that operates at up to 40 Megabits per second (Mbps) downstream
and 30 Mbps upstream.
