Sanyo and Magis Networks will demonstrate a prototype Sanyo wireless
television system at the upcoming 2003 International Consumer Electronics
Show (CES). The event will take place from 9-12 January 2003 in
Las Vegas.
Magis develops chipsets that enable wireless communications of
high-quality video, audio, and Internet data throughout the home
and office under the Air5 brand name.
The release states that Sanyo's prototype wireless television
system incorporates Magis' Air5 chipset to enable the wireless transmission
and reception of real-time video. The Sanyo CES demonstration will
feature a Sanyo-designed wireless television access point and remote
terminal with Air5 chipsets transmitting and receiving video up
to 30 Mbps.
An official release states that Magis' Air5 chipsets enable Sanyo
to deliver a high-quality wireless television experience to consumers,
while also bringing mobility to Sanyo's television systems. The
consumer will soon be able to watch the Sanyo portable television
anywhere in the home without concern for power or cable connections,
it adds.
Sanyo is also an investor in Magis' recently closed, oversubscribed
$45 million Series B round. The round included funding from strategic
partners AOL Time Warner, Hitachi, Motorola, and Panasonic, as well
as venture funds Vulcan, Bay Partners, Crescendo Ventures, WK Technology
Fund, China Industrial Development Bank and Elwin Partners, the
release states.
Sanyo provides semiconductor devices, flat panel displays and
system solutions for leading applications in the electronics industry
such as mobile communication equipment, PC/PC-related products,
and analog/digital AV equipment. Sanyo Semiconductor Company has
three wafer fabs and five assembly fabs in Japan, with an additional
