Motorola Broadband Communications Sector's Horizon Developer
Programme has validated the new Microsoft TV Interactive
Program Guide (IPG) for use on Motorola's DCT1000 and DCT1200
set-tops.
The Microsoft TV IPG is also ACADIA-validated for the Motorola
DCT2000, the industry's most widely deployed digital set-top,
says a company release. The
Microsoft TV IPG improves consumers' digital TV experience
by providing speedy scrolling and channel tuning, making
it faster, easier and more intuitive for users to find their
favorite TV shows and customise their television viewing.
It is fast, responsive and bandwidth-efficient, leveraging
the broadband network operators' broadcast infrastructure
to deliver TV listings and advertising, says the release.
Microsoft plans to integrate future versions of the Microsoft
TV IPG with third-party video-on-demand (VOD) systems. Achieving
the additional Motorola ACADIA validation for the Microsoft
TV IPG provides network operators with a cost-effective,
easy-to-deploy digital TV solution for leading Motorola
set-top boxes in the field.
Motorola
created the Horizon Programme to facilitate independent
software vendor (ISV) partners in the development and implementation
of interactive TV solutions, including IPGs, VOD, personal
video recording (PVR), Internet access, gaming, targeted
advertising, e-mail and commerce applications. These
applications enable broadband network operators to create
additional cash flow and decrease customer churn. ACADIA
validation is used as a benchmark for broadband network
operators as they choose the software, content and applications
to deliver to their subscribers.
