BEIJING:
Content protection and management company Irdeto Access
has completed the installation of its large scale Irdeto
psys conditional access system as an upgrade of its previously
delivered Irdeto M-Crypt system.
The upgrade was in accordance with the April 2002 deal with
Guangdong provincial CATV. The installation followed other
successful Irdeto psys installations at CSTTC and CBSAT
earlier this year, an official release says
Irdeto
psys, a digital content protection solution enables the
convergence of DVB and IP environments. The system has a
high capacity and is capable of handling up to millions
of subscribers. Irdeto psys is scalable and can accordingly
be tailored to meet customers' needs.
Irdeto
psys has been developed for satellite DTH, cable or terrestrial
broadcasting operations and is completely platform independent.
In combination with Irdeto CypherCast, the system acts as
a convergent head-end to manage both DVB and Internet content.
Guangdong,
on the southern coast of China, is one of the most economically
advanced provinces in China with a population of 68 million.
Guangdong was selected by the China State Administration
of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) to be one of the provinces
for digital TV projects after the decision to establish
the unified national backbone network and to construct province-wide
DTV platforms. In 2001, when Guangdong SARFT made the decision
to use one conditional access system throughout the province
for the gradual introduction of DTV broadcasting, VOD, home
banking and distance education services to subscribers in
the province, it was Irdeto Access that won the project,
the release says.
