Hughes Network Systems (HNS), the provider of broadband
satellite network solutions and manufacturer of satellite
television receivers, has introduced the new Digital Satellite
Recorder for DIRECTV.
According to an official release, the Digital Satellite
Recorder is a low-cost digital video recorder (DVR) set-top
box. Manufactured by HNS in cooperation with DIRECTV and
TiVo, the Digital Satellite Recorder will retail for approximately
$200 and will be available from HNS through leading consumer
electronics retailers from later this year.
The low-cost, easy-to-use product gives consumers complete
control over how they watch television. When combined with
the DIRECTV(R) Digital Video Recording service, the new
Digital Satellite Recorder will enable consumers to customise
their viewing experience. With dual tuners, the DIRECTV
Digital Satellite Recorder enables customers to record two
programmes at the same time or record one programme while
watching another. The service provides viewers with the
ability to pause, instantly replay and rewind live TV, and
fast forward and playback recorded programmes in normal
speed, slow motion or frame by frame.
The Digital Satellite Recorder has a 40 GB hard disk drive
that can digitally record up to 35 hours of programming,
so viewers can watch shows whenever they want. By using
the WishList feature, viewers can tell their receiver to
find shows based on their favourite actors, directors, teams
and interests. The DIRECTV Digital Satellite Recorder system
includes a digital satellite receiver, an 18-inch satellite
dish antenna with dual-output LNB (customers can also use
an 18- by 24-inch or 18- by 20-inch multi-satellite dish
with this receiver) and a universal remote control. Additional
features include digital-quality picture and sound capability,
an S-Video output, two sets of A/V outputs and Dolby(R)
Digital.
