Scientific-Atlanta
has unveiled two digital interactive set-tops available
to cable operators. The company claims its new Explorer
2200 and 3200 digital interactive set-tops feature the smallest
footprint and fastest RISC processor being offered by the
broadband technology innovator or any of its competitors.
The set-tops are scheduled to be shown at the NCTA Cable
2002 trade show taking place from 6, 7 and 8 May in New
Orleans, US.
The
set-tops were designed with the consumer in mind, delivering
increased performance for interactive TV services in a footprint
significantly smaller than previous models, says an official
release. They offer innovations and improvements which include
1.
Improved speed and performance - The Explorer 2200 and 3200
set-tops lead their class with a powerful 166MHz, 32-bit
RISC processor. Many set-top functions, such as graphics,
are processed via dedicated integrated circuitry and not
through the CPU. Consequently, more CPU power is available
for digital services versus competitive set-top designs.
2. More consumer friendly design - This is due to the smaller
footprint than competing set-tops which allows for seamless
integration into subscribers' homes. A front-panel design
conveys a modern, high-tech, quality image to consumers
as opposed to simpler set-top designs. It claims to remain
the only set-top with an MSO branding insert area.
