California-based
LSI Logic Corporation has announced that Tandberg Television
has chosen its DoMiNoNetwork Media Processing technology
for its next generation of professional video distribution
products.
Tandberg
Television claims to be the leader in the digital video
distribution market worldwide. The company is developing
next generation products for use in mobile and portable
("wireless camera") applications and broadcast head-ends
meeting the needs of satellite, cable, terrestrial, microwave,
Internet protocol (IP) and telecom network operators.
LSI Logic's DoMiNo Network Media Processing technology provides
Tandberg with the ability to save bandwidth while producing
broadcast-quality compressed images, an official release
states.
The
DoMiNo architecture matched Tandberg's requirements for
a compact, low power solution for portability and is also
flexible enough to serve a wide range of product applications,
from high definition and standard definition broadcast transmission
to bit rate changing used in broadband. The ability to add
value with Tandberg Television's own techniques was also
highly important to the company, the release states.
The
integrated motion estimation processor supports Motion Compensated
Temporal Filtering (MCTF) and De-Interlacing (MCDI) for
superior picture quality. This high-level of integration
drastically reduces system design complexity, component
cost and time-to-market and greatly increases system reliability
while cutting power consumption significantly.
With
45 billion-operations-per-second, the programmable DoMiNo
Network Media Processor supports all MPEG audio and video
compression formats including MPEG-4 and HDTV, enabling
Tandberg Television to lead the way for wireless digital
video distribution by delivering products ranging from wireless
cameras to HDTV broadcast equipment.
LSI
Logic Corporation claims to be a leading designer and manufacturer
of communications, consumer and storage semiconductors for
applications that access, interconnect and store data, voice
and video.
