California-based
high tech company Telisar Corporation has unveiled its first
product line at the NAB2002 Show. The event, which started
on 8 April, concludes tomorrow in Las Vegas. The new product
line includes equipment for using Telisar's Separate Video
Program (SVP) television system to double the channel capacity
of cable TV, television broadcast, and satellite TV systems.
Telisar's
SVP system provides a full digital television channel embedded
within a regular analog television transmission, allowing
two separate channels to be broadcast in the same spectrum,
while maintaining compatibility with existing analog televisions,
a company release says. The second SVP digital television
channel can be used to simulcast a broadcast station signal
in digital or may contain different programming from the
original analog TV program, such as pay-per-view, sports
or other premium programming.
The
Telisar SVP system does not affect the existing analog television
signal, does not require any complex abatement signals and
is inherently multi-path tolerant for broadcast and cable
applications, the releae says.
Included
in Telisar's product preview is the Telisar model SVP-2500E
Digital Overlay Encoder. The SVP-2500E is added to the television
broadcast transmitter, cable TV head-end, or satellite uplink
station and generates the Telisar SVP signal for broadcast
over the existing transmission facilities.
The
Telisar SVP product line delivers upward and downward compatibility
for television and cable systems. This capability gives
broadcasters the equipment for continuing to provide their
existing customer base with analog television while adding
new digital channels simultaneously in the same spectrum,
with the same broadcast transmitter antenna equipment and
outside cable facilities.
