Advertising by the Automobile Industry on TV January-August 2007

Key Findings:

  • Automobile Industry saw a 30 per cent rise in ad volumes on TV during January-August 2007 compared to the same period in 2006.
  • Maximum automobile advertisements were seen in the month of February and July 2007.
  • Automobile advertising was driven by the Car/Jeep segment with 44 per cent share followed by Motorcycles with 37 per cent share.
  • Regional GEC and Hindi News channels had the maximum share of ad volumes.
  • 'Tata Motors' and 'Hero Honda Motors' were the Top two advertising players during January-August 2007.
  • From approximately 1016 commercials per day on an average, by the Automobile players in January-August 2006, the number rose to 1355 commercials in January-August 2007.

Ad Volume Growth in Automobile sector.

  • Overall in the Automobile sector, L & T John Deere Tractor, Yamaha motorcycle and Bajaj Avenger Dts-I had the maximum growth in ad volumes on Television during January-August 2007.
  • January-August 2007 saw a rise of 19 per cent in number of brands advertised on Television compared to the same period of previous year.

Monthly trend of advertising by Automobiles during January-August 2007.

  • In the entire year, July had the maximum number of Automobile advertisements, where Hero Honda Motors had the maximum advertisements.
  • There was a rise of 85 per cent registered in number of ad commercials of Automobiles in the month of February 2007 as compared to the previous month.

Segments of Automobile sector during January-August 2007.

  • Cars and Jeeps had the largest advertising share i.e. of 44 per cent followed by Motorcycles with 37 per cent share.
  • Tata Motors dominated the passenger Car/Jeep segment however Motorcycle advertising was driven by Hero Honda Motors.

Top five Segments with the maximum advertising growth on TV.

  • Five new models of E-bikes advertised during January-August 2007.
  • Kinetic Blaze Italiano Series advertised the maximum under the Scooterette segment during January-August 2007 on television.

Share of Channel Genres during January-August 2007.

  • Regional GECs saw maximum advertising by Motorcycles and Scooterette during January-August 2007.
  • Passenger Cars/Jeeps preferred advertising on Hindi and English news channels.

Top five players in the Automobile Industry.

  • Tata Motors, which dominated the Cars/Jeeps and Commercial vehicles segment, was the Top player in entire Automobile sector.
  • Hero Honda Motors, the leader of Two Wheeler segment, was at second position.

New models advertised in Automobile sector on TV.

  • Overall, 55 new automobiles were launched on Television during January-August 2007, out of which maximum new entrants belong to Cars/Jeeps segment.
  • Bajaj Auto had three of its new models in the Top 10 list.

Average advertisements per day by Automobile players on TV.

  • The average advertisements of Automobiles per day on television rose by 35 per cent in January-August 2007 as compared to January-August 2006.
  • In January-August 2007, passenger Car/Jeep segment had 630 ads per day on an average, whereas Motorcycles had 430 advertisements per day on an average.
