Snapshot on TV Advertising in January-September 2007 - Part 2

Before we begin with the analysis of TV advertising Jan-Sept 2007 Part 2, let's have a quick re-cap of the preceding Newsletter:

  • 33 per cent rise in overall TV ad volumes during January-September 2007 over January-September 2006.
  • 'Food and Beverages' sector led TV advertising.
  • 'Cellular Phone Service', 'Social Advertisements' and 'Toilet Soaps' were the top three categories in January-September 2007.
  • HUL was the number one advertiser on TV in January-September 2007.

This week AdEx India brings to you the second part of TV Advertising during January-September 2007.

Key Findings:

  • TV advertisers preferred Regional GECs'.
  • Radio Promotion on TV saw a whopping growth of over three times during January-September 2007 over January-September 2006.
  • 66 per cent rise in Print Publication promotion on TV during January-September 2007.
  • www.homeshop18.com topped the chart of exclusive advertisers list on TV.
  • Commercials and Tag Promos were used in the ratio of 61:39.

Share of Genres on TV during January-September 2007.

  • 'Food and Beverages', 'Personal Care/Personal Hygiene' and 'Hair Care' sector led the advertising on Regional GEC during January-September 2007.
  • Whereas on Hindi News Channels, apart from players of 'Food and Beverages', 'Banking/Finance/Investment' and 'Services' were dominant.

Share of Category under Top three Genres on TV during January-September 2007.

  • 'Social Advertisements' and 'Toilet Soaps' were the top two categories which were seen maximum on 'Regional GEC' during January-September 2007.
  • Ads of 'Cellular Phone Service' and 'Corporate Brand Image' were visible more on Hindi News Channels.
  • After Toilet Soap, brands of Shampoos were advertised maximum on 'Hindi GECs'.

Volume Growth in Radio Stations on TV in January-September 2007.

  • Nine advertisers of Radio Stations accounted for 57 per cent of overall Radio advertising in January-September 2007 and their advertising figures were nil during the same period in 2006.
  • Radio City 91.1 FM, Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM and Red FM 93.5 were the top three brands advertised on television during January-September 2007.

Volume Growth in Print Publications on TV in January-September 2007.

  • Although Print Publication promotion saw a growth of 66 per cent, there was decline of 7 per cent in number of brands advertised during January-September 2007 over January-September 2006.
  • Dinakaran, Malayala Manorama Daily and Rashtriya Sahara Daily were the top Print Publication to be advertised on television during January-September 2007.

Top Players advertising on Television only.

  • Top 10 List saw two players each from 'Services' and 'Food and Beverages' sector.
  • Two advertisers under the flagship of Procter and Gamble were among the top 10 list.

New brands advertised on TV during January-September 2007.

  • www.homeshop18.com took the number one place in the top 10 new brands on TV during January-September 2007.
  • Two brands each under the 'Personal Care/Personal Hygiene', 'Hair Care' and 'Auto' sector made it to the top 10 list.

Usage of Commercial andTag Promo on TV during January-September 2007.

  • As compared to January-September 2006 commercial advertising saw a rise of 31 per cent and Tag Promo grew by 15 per cent during January-September 2007.
  • HUL, Coca Cola and Pepsi Co. used maximum of Tag Promotion during January-September 2007.
