Snapshot on Internet Portal TV advertising during January-August 2007

Key Findings:

  • Television advertising of Internet Portals showed an extraordinary growth of 190 per cent during January-August 2007 compared to the same period in 2006.
  • 'General category' Internet Portals did the maximum advertising.
  • 'Shopping Portals' were the ones which recorded maximum advertising growth during January-August 2007.
  • www.homeshop18.com took the number one slot in the top ten brand list and also in the new brand list on Television.
  • Average advertisements/day saw a rise of 2.4 times in January-August 2007 over January-August 2006.

Volume Growth in TV advertising of Internet Portals.

  • The number of Internet portals advertised on TV increased from 82 in January-August 2006 to 143 in January-August 2007.
  • www.cleartrip.com, www.indiatimes.com and Keralamatrimony.com had recorded maximum growth in its ad volumes during January-August 2007 over January-August 2006.

Share of Segments of Internet Portal during January-August 2007.

  • During January-August 2007 there were 48 portals under the "General Category*" which accounted for 71 per cent of the advertising.
  • 98 per cent of advertising by a new portal www.homeshop18.com under the "Shopping Portals" category during January-August 2007.
  • www.timesjobs.com, www.jobstreet.com and www.monster.com were the top three brands under the "Recruitment Portals" category.

*General Category includes websites like msn, Aol, Indiatimes etc…

Top growing segments of Internet Portals during January-August 2007.

  • Advertising of "Shopping Portal" category was led by three new websites namely www.homeshop18.com, www.todayshop.com and www.Sammanam.com during January-Auguat 2007.
  • Four New entrants namely www.magicbrick.com, www.indiaproperty.com, www.propertyhubindia.com and www.indiaproperties.com accounted for the growth in ad volumes of "Real Estate" category during January-August 2007.

Advertising of Top 10 Internet Portals during January-August 2007.

  • www.homeshop18.com leads the Internet portal advertising with 23 per cent share.
  • Top 10 Internet Portals together contributed 52 per cent of ad volumes in January-August 2007.
  • www.simplymarry.com a Matrimonial portal made to the top 10 list though the Matrimonial category had justnine per cent share during January-August 2007.

New websites advertised on TV.

  • Overall there were 77 new internet websites launched on Television during January-August 2007.
  • Maximum new entrants belong to the General Category, out of which five of them were seen in the Top 10 list.

Average ads per day by Internet Websites on TV.

  • "Shopping Portals" recorded maximum rise in its average advertisements /day i.e. two in January-August 2006 to 209 in January-August 2007.
