Snapshot of Loans Advertising on TV January-September 2007

Key Findings:

  • "Loans" contributed six per cent share in Banking/Finance/Investment sector, with 13 per cent dip in advertising volumes on TV in January-September 2007 over January-September 2006.
  • Private players advertising share rose from 68 per cent in January-September 2006 to 94 per cent in January-September 2007.
  • Third quarter of the year 2007 saw the maximum "Loan" advertising.
  • Private players and PSU's offered maximum of "Housing/Construction Loans".
  • "LIC Housing Finance" and "SBI" topped the advertisers list.
  • Maximum new schemes offered by private players related to "Personal/Professional Loans" whereas PSU's focused on "Housing/Construction Loans".

Advertising share of "Loans" and their growth.

  • "Loans" category of "Banking/Finance/Investment" sector saw a dip from nine per cent in advertising volumes during January-September 2006 to six per cent in January-September 2007.
  • The number of loan schemes advertised on TV dropped by 21 per cent in January-September 2007 as compared to January-September 2006.

Share of PSU's and private players in advertising.

  • Private player's grabbed huge advertising share in January-September 2007 leaving PSU's with a meager six per cent share.
  • 25 loan schemes offered by Private players contributed 94 per cent of advertising share as compared to six per cent share contributed by 24 loan schemes of PSU's.
  • Huge advertising by 'Mahindra Finance' and 'ICICI Bank Home Search' in January-September 2007 over January-September 2006.

Quarterly advertising trend of "Loan" players.

Steady Advertising by PSU's across quarters.

  • Nearly 50 per cent of advertising by Private players and PSU's in the third quarter of the year 2007.

Advertising growth of Private players and PSU's in "Loans" category.

  • Though there is dip in number of Loan schemes offered by Private players, there was a rise of 22 per cent in their advertising volumes in January-September 2007 as compared to the same period of previous year.
  • There was a huge fall in number of loan schemes as well as the adverting of PSU's.

Type of Loan schemes offered by Private Players and PSU's

  • Private players and PSU's focused on 'Housing /Construction' loans.
  • Private players had a high advertising share in 'Personal/Professional' loans whereas PSU's offered more schemes in "Education" loan category.

Top players offering loan schemes.

  • The Top private player "LIC Housing Finance" offered "Housing/Construction Loan" scheme only whereas "Fullerton India Credit Corporation" offered schemes related to "Personal/Professional Loan" and "Multiple Loan" category.
  • SBI, under the PSU, offered overall nine schemes across various types of loans i.e. Housing/Construction, Personal/Professional, Auto as well as Education category.

New Loan offers by Private players and PSU's in January-September 2007.

  • Overall eight new loan schemes were advertised by the private players, whereas six new schemes were advertised by PSU's on TV in January-September 2007.
  • During January-September 2007 maximum new loan schemes offered by private players belonged to 'Personal/Professional' category however PSU's focused on 'Housing/Construction' category.
