Key Findings:

  • Mobile phones advertising on TV saw a growth of 10 per cent during January-October 2007 over January-October 2006.
  • High advertising of mobile phones during fourth quarter of the year 2005 and 2006.
  • National and regional channels share the mobile phones ad pie in the ratio of 79:21.
  • Nokia Corporation was the top advertiser under mobile phones.
  • Sony Ericsson W200i topped the chart of new mobile phones advertised on TV during January-October 2007.

Growth in mobile phones advertising volumes.

  • Mobile phones had a two per cent share in the overall television advertising during January-October 2007.
  • 47 per cent rise in the number of mobile phone advertisers during January-October 2007 as compared to January-October 2006.

Quarterly trend of mobile phones advertising during 2005 and 2006.

  • High advertising of mobile phones during festive seasons.
  • Advertising of mobile phones grew more than 80 per cent in the fourth quarter compared to the first quarter of the year 2006 and 2005.

Zone wise split of mobile phones advertising.

  • Nearly 60 per cent growth was observed in the mobile phones advertising on the regional channels during January-October 2007 as compared to same period of 2006.
  • Among the regional channels 59 per cent of advertising volumes was on South zone channels followed by East zone channels with a share of 29 per cent.

Top Players of mobile phones on TV during January-October 2007.

  • Pratham Telecom India Pvt Ltd, Bharti Airtel Ltd and Intex Technologies moved up from 16th, 17th and 19th place in January-October 2006 to 8th, 9th and 10th place respectively in January-October 2007.
  • Nokia Corporation advertised for the maximum number of brands (33) followed by Motorola and Samsung India Electronics Ltd who advertised for 16 and eight brands respectively.

New Brands of mobile phones advertised on TV.

  • Overall 70 new models of mobile phones were launched on television during January-October 2007.
  • Nokia Corporation advertised for highest number of new model of mobile phones i.e. 23 followed Motorola with 13 new models.

Average advertising frequency per day of mobile phone on Television.

  • Average advertise per day of mobile phones increased by 11 per cent in January-October 2007 as compared to January-October 2006.
  • Nokia 6300, Sony Ericsson W200i and Samsung E250 had the highest advertising frequency per day on television during January-October 2007.
