Snapshot on TV Program Genres in the year 2006

Key Findings:

  • A rise of 38 per cent in count of programs on TV channels in the year 2006 over 2005
  • News Bulletin genre garnered the maximum 18 per cent share of ad volumes closely followed by Feature Films in year 2006
  • Maximum growth in ad volumes of Baseball genre in 2006
  • News Bulletin had the highest count of advertisers on TV channels in the year 2006
  • Feature Films genre topped advertising on National channels whereas News Bulletin leads in Regional channels

This week, AdEx India analyzes the advertising in Program Genres on TV channels in the year 2006.

  • TV channels saw a rise of 38 per cent in count of programs from nearly 32000 in the year 2005 to 45000 programs in the year 2006.

Top 5 Program Genres on TV channels in the year 2006.

 
 
  • 2006 saw a mix of different program genres in the Top five list.
  • News Bulletin genre accounted for the maximum 18 per cent share of ad volumes closely followed by Feature Films with 16 per cent share on TV in the year 2006.
  • Music Shows/songs genre stood at 3rd position with 9% share whereas Drama/soap was at the 4th position.

  • All the Top five Program Genres saw rise in ad volumes in 2006, with huge 90 per cent increase registered in ad volumes of Film Songs compared to the previous year.

  • Four of the Top five growing Program genres belong to Sports.
  • Baseball registered the maximum six times growth in ad volumes on TV channels in 2006 over the previous year.
  • Other 3 genres with high growth were Boxing, News Headlines and Badminton.

  • Interestingly genres like Interviews, Reviews, Talk shows were in the Top 10 list with high number of advertisers using their ads in the programs.
  • News Bulletin topped among the program genres with the maximum count of advertisers in year 2006.

Top Program Genres across National and Regional zone channels in year 2006.

 
 
  • Three of the Top five program genres were common across National and Regional zone channels i.e. Feature Films, News Bulletin and Drama/ soap.
  • A mix of program genres were seen in the Top five list on National channels however Regional channels saw two of the Music genre programs i.e. Music Shows/songs and Film Songs in the Top five list.

Program Genres with the maximum Program Promotions in year 2006.

 
 
  • Nearly 50 per cent of the advertising in Program Promotions accounted by the Top five program genres in the year 2006.
  • News Bulletin had the maximum 19 per cent share of ad volumes in Program Promotions followed by Feature Films with 11 per cent share.
