Analysis of Automobile Sector Advertising on TV during January-September 2006

Key Findings:

  • 45 per cent more advertising by Automobile manufacturers on TV during January-September 2006 over January-September 2005.
  • Cars/Jeeps garnered the highest 51 per cent share on TV during January-September 2006 followed by 44 per cent share of Two Wheelers.
  • Commercial Vehicles had the maximum growth in TV advertising in January-September 2006 over January-September 2005.
  • Cars/Jeeps and Commercial Vehicles used more advertising on News Bulletin while Two Wheelers advertisements focused on Feature Films in January-September 2006.
  • Spike in number of Automobile advertisements during Prime Time.
  • 'Tata Motors' topped Automobile advertising on TV in January-September 2006.

  • 45 per cent jump in Automobile Sector advertising on TV during January-September 2006 over January-September 2005.

  • More than half of the advertising share by 'Cars/Jeeps' on TV during January-September 2006.
  • A high 44 per cent share by 'Two Wheelers' whereas Commercial Vehicles had 5 per cent share.

  • Maximum 167 per cent growth observed in Commercial Vehicles advertising followed by 97 per cent growth in Two Wheelers in January-September 2006 compared to January-September 2005 on TV.

  • Cars/Jeeps shows a U-shaped trend with maximum advertising in the first quarter followed by advertising share in the last quarter of 2005.
  • Two Wheelers observed a rising trend with peak in advertising in the last quarter while peak in Commercial Vehicles advertising during the Monsoons in 2005.

  • Interestingly, Cricket topped among the Program genres used by Cars/Jeeps.
  • Cars/Jeeps used maximum 28 per cent share of advertising in News Bulletin followed by Feature Films on TV during January-September 2006.
  • Commercial Vehicles advertising skewed towards News Bulletin while Two Wheelers focused their advertising mainly in Feature Films.
