We at AdEx India decided to look at advertising
on music channels this week. We found that amongst the music channels
MTV is on the top followed by Channel [V], in terms of Ad duration.
Even B4U Music and ETC are not left far behind.
Music channels attract a different set of audience
as compared to other channel genres. Hence, advertising too is
quite different from other channels. Categories like footwear
and writing instruments, which do not rank high amongst all TV
channel advertising, rank third and fourth respectively for music
channel advertising. Similarly, categories like Corporate/Brand
Image and shampoos, which are top categories on all TV advertising,
are ranked much lower here. The following table illustrates this.
On analysing this for the individual channels the picture is even
more contrasting. The category, which tops on B4U Music, is pan
masala/ zarda/ gutkha. Liquor and hosiery are other noticeable contributors.

Aerated
soft drinks dominate on Channel [V]. Perfumes/deodorant
is another noteworthy contributor here.

Footwear, cellular phones and fairness creams top advertising
on MTV.
