Key Findings:

  • 14 per cent growth in 'consumer durables' advertising on TV during 2009 compared to 2008.
  • 'Water purifiers/filters' category was the major contributor in advertising of 'consumer durables' sector on TV during 2009.
  • 'Hindustan Unilever Ltd' was the top advertiser of 'consumer durables' brands on TV during 2009.
  • 'Samsung LED TV' gathered maximum TV ad volumes among all the new 'consumer durables' advertised on TV during 2009.
Volume growth of 'consumer durables' sector on TV.
  • Compared to 2008, TV ad volumes of 'consumer durables' sector recorded a growth of 14 per cent during 2009.
 
Share of consumer durable categories on TV
  • 'Water purifiers/filters' category had the maximum share i.e. 21 per cent of overall advertising share of 'consumer durables' sector on TV followed by 'television sets' and 'air conditioners' categories with 15 per cent and 8 per cent share respectively during 2009.
 
Growth in 'consumer durables' categories on TV
  • Compared to 2008, top three growing 'consumer durables' categories on TV were 'range of electricals products', 'music systems' and 'transformer/voltage stabilizer' during 2009.
 
Top advertisers of 'consumer durables' on TV during 2009 and its rank in 2008
  • 'Hindustan Unilever Ltd' and 'LG Electronics Ltd' have maintained its top two positions in the top 10 advertisers list of 2009 and 2008. Meanwhile, 'Microtek International' had maintained its fourth position during both the years - 2008 and 2009.
  • Compared to 2008, 'Mirc Electronics', 'Bajaj Electricals Ltd' and 'Sony India Ltd' have moved up in its rank to be in the top 10 list of advertisers of 2009.
 
New 'consumer durables' brands advertised on TV
  • 'Samsung LED TV', 'LG Refrigerator' and 'Whirlpool Ro Water Purifier' were the top three new brands of 'consumer durables' sector advertised on TV during 2009.
  • Top 10 new consumer durable brands advertised on TV comprised two brands each of 'television sets', 'washing machines' and 'air conditioners' categories during 2009.
 
Celebrity endorsement of 'consumer durables' brands on TV
  • 'Kajol' and 'Ranbir Kapoor' each with 18 per cent share leads in celebrity endorsements of 'consumer durables' on TV during 2009.
