Overview of FMCG sector advertising on TV during 2009

  • 50 per cent growth in TV advertising of FMCG sector during 2009 compared to 2008.
  • 'Food & beverages' contributed for 36 per cent share of overall FMCG sector advertising in TV during 2009.
  • 'Hindustan Unilever Ltd' was the top advertiser under FMCG sector on TV during 2009.
  • 'Ponds White Beauty' occupied the top position among the new FMCG brands advertised on TV during 2009.

  • FMCG sector had 40 per cent share in overall TV advertising during 2009.
 
Volume growth of FMCG sector on TV
  • Compared to 2008, FMCG sector recorded a rise of 50 per cent in its TV ad volumes during 2009.
 
Share of FMCG sub sectors on TV
  • 'Food & beverages' with 36 per cent share had the highest advertising share of overall FMCG sector TV ad pie followed by 'personal care/personal hygiene' and 'hair care' sub sectors with 29 per cent and 12 per cent share respectively during 2009.
 
Fastest growing FMCG sub sectors on TV during 2009
  • Among all the FMCG sub sectors, 'personal care/personal hygiene' observed maximum growth in its TV ad volumes followed by 'personal accessories' and 'laundry' during 2009 compared to 2008.
 
Key advertisers of FMCG sector on TV
  • 'HUL', 'Reckitt Benckiser (India) Ltd' and 'Coca Cola India Ltd' were the top three advertisers of FMCG sector on TV during 2009.
 
Top new brands of FMCG sector on TV
  • 'Ponds White Beauty', 'Clinic All Clear Tech Soft', 'Dove Hair Fall Therapy System' were the top three new brands of FMCG sector advertised on TV during 2009.
  • During 2009, top 10 list of FMCG sector on TV comprised of four new brands each of 'personal care/personal hygiene' and 'hair care' sub sectors.
 
Celebrity endorsement of FMCG brands on TV
  • 'Priyanka Chopra', 'Kareena Kapoor' and 'Katrina Kaif' were the top three celebrities with maximum ad volumes of celebrity endorsement of FMCG brands on TV during 2009.
