Balaji promoters Jeetendra
Kapoor and Tusshar Kapoor have offloaded 4.85 per cent stake
to FIIs on 7 January 2004. The Balaji Telefilms scrip
closed today's session at Rs 108.20 with a gain of 1.79 per
cent on the BSE after peaking at its intra day high of Rs
109.70 earlier in the day. Over 0.3 million shares to the
tune of Rs 32.6 million have been traded on the counter on
the BSE.
Pritish Nandy was the biggest gainer in the
media sector. The scrip paced up 14 per cent over traded volumes
of 1.16 lakh shares. Mid-Day Multimedia was among the other
strong media scrips. The stock moved up 11 per cent and close
to 1.5 lakh shares were traded on the counter.
The Crest Communications
board has finalised a $ 5.8 million GDR. The Crest
board of directors sub-committee, in its meeting held on 7
January 2004, has approved a 0.75 million GDR issue at a placing
price of US$ 7.75 per GDR aggregating to over US$ 5.8 million.
The stock jacked up 10.43 per cent and over one lakh Crest
shares changed hands on the BSE today.

Media stocks accounted for 1.02 per
cent of the total market capitalisation of BSE 30 and
0.74 per cent of BSE 100

Media major Zee Telefilms closed at Rs 168.75
with a gain of 7.31 per cent on the BSE after peaking at its
intra day 52-week high of Rs 169.90 earlier in the day. Over
22.11 lakh Zee shares were traded on the BSE. Group company
ETC climbed 6.27 per cent while Padmalaya Telefilms gained
five per cent. Over one lakh Padmalaya shares were traded
on the counter.
SABTNL moved up 8.66 per cent on healthy volumes of 7.5 lakh
shares. Others to post heavy gains on the BSE were Saregama
- up 10 per cent, Cinevistaas - up 7.58 per cent and Tips
- up 7.4 per cent.
Star maker Mukta Arts however, bucked the trend to close in
the red. The stock pared down one per cent over the day.
All in all, it was a strong session for the media players
as it was for the markets overall.
