After
Rendezvous With Simi Garewal, Star World kicks
off another chat show Cover Story. Launching
tomorrow (14 September), the show will air every Sunday
at 10 pm.
Vir
Sanghvi hosts the show in a friendly straightforward
manner. He already hosts Vir Ke Teer on the
sister channel Star News.
Sanghvi's
first guest is the star of Balaji soap Kyunkii
Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Smriti Irani. The credits
at the beginning mimic the opening of Kamzor Kadii
Kaun (the adaptation of the BBC show Weakest
Link) and one gets the impression that this show
too may have contestants.
The
flow of dialogue is very smooth and Sanghvi has successfully
got behind the onscreen persona. What he got was a
confident outspoken woman, who one feels, would have
succeeded in any sphere of life.
The
show reveals fascinating and surprising glimpses of
the actress' personality including the fact that as
a child she was physically aggressive. Another surprise
is her fluency with the English language. She talks
frankly about how she started her career swabbing
and cleaning the floors of a Mcdonalds outlet.
She
also talks about the difficulties of working through
pregnancy which she claims is not unusual for the
Indian woman.
She
is also comfortable with the criticism hurled at Balaji
soaps for being regressive, and retaliates saying,
"I am not playing the character as some dumb
bimbette who just sits around." She also reminisces
on how Balaji creative head Ekta Kapoor encouraged
her to take on a nasty tone, early on while filming.
In
sum, Cover Story is a welcome addition to Star
World's Made In India programme band.
