The future of film

The future of film

The second speaker of the day Singapore based Seagate Technologies' Ramesh Meer, symposium host and founder of FX factory, the special effects company, spoke of the special effects he has created for Dehan, produced by Govind Nihlani, the first Indian futuristic movie set in the year 2022. The movie is about a company that sells human organs and parts. Only the humans in the movie are real, the rest is all computer-generated graphics. The twenty three and a half minutes of graphics took more than eight months to complete using Max, Maya, Lightwave, Digital Fusion and Halo, he revealed. Other movies for which Meer has created special effects are the box office hit Kaho Na Pyar Hain and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.

Says Meer: "I had created a pilot for a serial with special effects, but no channel was willing to pay for its broadcast. Channels want only what the market wants. I have also shot a new serial with special effects, which can be viewed only wearing special glasses. A leading channel will air this shortly, and one will have to wear special glasses to get the special effects. This will be only possible by sitting close to the TV screen."
