The
first talk on the second day focused on the relevance of
e-business in digital content creation.
Jyothi Satyanathan, country business manager, IBM, said
that e-business has to be understood as a means to business
and not a business by itself. Businessmen have to ensure
that the fundamentals of the business package are right
to convert to this new economy currency.
Information today is as important as creation, storage and
retrieval of the stored data. Enabling e-business means
charting out the workflow, hosting delivery, data management,
data security, transaction processing scalability, availability
of data, and turning that data to strategic advantage. The
aim of e-business is to see that data is available with
adequate security to anyone on any device, anywhere. IDC
estimates put the market size around US $ 80 million and
digital content business is seeing an annual growth of 82%,
he said.
Satyanathan pointed out that the mode of business distribution
too had changed from one-to-many to one-to-one. For example,
movies can be distributed via set-top boxes on a pay per
view charge to a single viewer. India has the advantage
of being very cost competitive in the new-world scenario
and has the best quality software engineers. Unfortunately,
said Satyanathan, this business opportunity is being capitalized
by Korea, Taiwan and China, and Indians are yet to catch
up with the concept of e-business. The range for e-business
is very extensive, and the one who grabs it will survive
and lead the market,he predicted.
